Funding Your Education
Financial Aid Overview
Interior Designers Institute participates in Title IV federal student aid programs. Eligible students may receive grants, loans, and other assistance to help cover tuition and related expenses.
Financial aid is available for degree-seeking students enrolled in the Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, and Master of Interior Architecture programs. The Certificate Course is not eligible for federal financial aid as it is an avocational program.
Types of Aid
Available Financial Aid
IDI students may be eligible for the following types of financial assistance.
Federal Pell Grants
The Pell Grant is need-based from the federal government that you do not need to repay unless your enrollment status changes or you withdraw from school. Award amounts vary based on financial need, cost of attendance, and enrollment status.
Federal Direct Subsidized Loans
The loan is need-based where the government pays the interest while you are enrolled at least half-time. This is 6 or more units of enrollment. There is a 6 month grace period before you enter repayment on this loan. No prior defaults allowed.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans
The loan is available regardless of financial need, but no prior defaults allowed. You must be enrolled for 6 or more units. Interest accrues while you are in school, but you may elect to make interest payments while in school. This loan also carries a 6 month grace period before you enter into repayment.
Federal Direct PLUS Loans
The loan is credit-based for parents of dependent undergraduate students. Allows borrowing up to $20,000 per academic year minus other financial aid received per student. There is no grace period. However, parents may select to defer repayment until the student graduates. The parent must make this selection at the time of the application process. Otherwise, the repayment begins once all of the funds are disbursed to the student’s account. No prior defaults allowed on this loan type.
